Kantuketan in digital format and in America

An interactive exhibition

The network of American Basque associations, N.A.B.O. (North American Basque Organizations), the Autonomous Basque Government and the Basque Cultural Institute are behind this project.

Its members have chosen to dedicate an exhibition to song and the special place it holds both for the Basque Country and the Basque diaspora. The exhibition takes visitors on a surprising journey through history and society from Souletin song to hip-hop.

An original way of developing Basque song with the diaspora

Heavy technical constraints would have made it difficult for this exhibition presented by the Basque Cultural Institute in 2001 (35 locations since then) to be set up and travel.

Those in charge of the project therefore decided to make it available as an interactive DVD with six tactile screens.

This digital version of the Kantuketan exhibition will be inaugurated on 16 February 2007 at San Francisco's Basque Cultural Centre on the occasion of its 25 anniversary, in the presence of Miren Azkarate, the Autonomous Basque Government's Minister for Culture.

Pantxoa Etchegoin, Director of the Basque Cultural Institute, will also take part in these ceremonies along with many representatives from the Basque diaspora.

The exhibition will then travel to Winnemucca in June 2007 and Chino in September 2008. When it is not travelling it will be kept at the Basque Museum in Boise (Idaho).
