Joxean Fernández (1973 – San Sebastian, Gipuzkoa) is director of the Basque Film Library. He is also a member of the Zinemaldia festival’s steering committe, professor at the University of Nantes and a specialist in the history of the cinema. He was asked by the Etxepare Institute to write a short book on the history of Basque cinema, which was recently published with a trilingual version with support from the Basque Cultural Institute. In this work he recounts and analyses local cinema to better understand both its past and its future.
