Work on presenting the villages of Lower Navarre
Further to a request by the Public University of Navarre, the BCI undertook a presentation of villages in the historic province of Lower Navarre.
75 municipalities in Lower Navarre were studied, ie. approx. 90 former parishes (certain villages are grouped together like Arraute-Charritte, for example).
The presentation includes a written description of approximately 675 pages. It is sometimes complemented by historic documents and various plans (villages, old buildings that were destroyed, etc). The presentation is also amended with bibliographical and monographic references corresponding to 200 works, and sometimes even web links.
This research lasting 6 months was carried out by Bixente Lohiague. It involved studying in depth and summarising some thirty books, articles and other documents (whether published or not) of different types (archaeological, architectural, historical, geological, etc.).
This study would not have been possible without the help of around a hundred referees, local councillors and scientists, as well as local inhabitants with an extensive knowledge of oral tradition and village life.
Bixente Lohiague carried out almost 4500 photos (villages, streets, heritage) in addition to 2900 former photos which he collected: ethnographical items, family photos, village photos, etc.
All this material will soon be available for consultation at www.navarchivo.com.
