Theatre in Basque
Theatre is driven by both amateur and professional companies whose repertoire includes texts by Basque writers and adaptations (Brecht, Reza, Koltes, etc).
It is also played and sung outdoors, as in the case of the pastorale, the oldest form of Basque popular theatre. Every year in the province of Soule, an entire village joins forces to put on a new play. Original experiences have renewed this genre.
Theatre is also part of festive rituals like the mascarade and the cavalcade.
