The iron poet
"In my Basque Country, I feel as much at home as a tree in the right surroundings, on the right soil with its branches open to the entire World" - Eduardo Chillida
The death of the sculptor Eduardo Chillida in 2002 was described by the international press as the loss of one of the 20th century’s greatest artists.
To understand the work of Eduardo Chillida you have to be familiar with the wealth of early 20th century Modernism, a period during which the arts merged, especially architecture and sculpture.
This combination favoured the use of the least likely techniques.
Eduardo Chillida was one of the protagonists of these original experiences playing with materials considered hostile until then.
