To enrich research and knowledge on intangible cultural heritage
On 12th January, 2017, the ministerial committee of ethnological and intangible heritage granted for a period of four years (2017-2021) the "ethnopôle" label to the consortium formed by the Basque cultural institute and the School of Advanced Studies in Social Sciences (EHESS) (via the mixed research unit in humanities and social sciences Georg Simmel).
The project of the Basque ethnological centre originates in the close link developed over the years between the heritage service of the Basque cultural institute and the ethnological research programs carried out by the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) in the north of the Basque Country. The project of the ethnological centre is structured around four research subjects:
- the "Heritage-Creation" relationship, its flagship theme;
- the orality;
- the enhanced value of digital resources about Basque culture;
- the linguistic pluralities.
